** Important Update and Eliminated Bus Stops **

On June 20, 2024, the Board of Education determined that due to operational costs and efficiencies, including staffing, the district shall enforce the current guidelines for determining transportation qualifications.

When determining if transportation should be offered, the district measures the distance from the school using a straight-line radius, not the actual driving distance. This approach is used because bus routes are complex and go through various neighborhoods, making it impractical to calculate driving distances for each bus stop. Therefore, a radius distance is used instead.

  • Elementary school students (grades TK-5): three-fourths (¾) mile radius
  • Secondary students attending a three-year middle school (grades 6 - 8): three (3) miles radius
  • Secondary students attending a four-year high school (grades 9 - 12): four (4) miles radius

The following are exceptions to the distance radius –

  • Special education students who have required transportation services as part of their Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  • Students who would be required to cross highway 50, the American River, or the active Light Rail from their home address to school

Regional Transit Transportation is FREE and available to all students. Passes can be picked up at the transportation department, middle/high school sites.

2025-2026 TRANSPORTATION UPDATE

As we continue to align our transportation services with district policy and available resources, we want to provide families with a clear overview of the priority guidelines used to determine transportation eligibility and service provision for the upcoming school year.

District-Directed vs District Required

Transportation services will be prioritized as follows:

These services are required and must be provided:

  • McKinney-Vento students (Homeless Education Act)
  • Special Education students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) that includes transportation services

Highest Priority for Transportation Services

Transportation will be prioritized for:

  • Socio-economically disadvantaged students residing outside the designated service area, per Education Code 39800.1
  • District-required overflow students who have been placed at a school other than their home school

Services Dependent on Staffing and Budget Availability

Transportation may be provided if resources allow:

  • Title I school students residing within non-service areas, based on targeted needs such as chronic absenteeism
  • General education students living outside of the service area who opt into paid transportation services

Important Exclusions

Please note that transportation is not provided for the following:

  • Students attending a school of choice that is not their designated home school
  • Students attending school on an inter-district transfer

Transportation Eligibility

For the 2025–2026 school year, students living within the following distances from their assigned schools may not be eligible for district transportation:

  • Elementary school students (grades TK-5): three-fourths (¾) mile radius
  • Secondary students attending a three-year middle school (grades 6 - 8): three (3) miles radius
  • Secondary students attending a four-year high school (grades 9 - 12): four (4) miles radius

Transportation services will be offered based on available space and are not guaranteed. In alignment with district policy and prioritization guidelines, seats will be allocated according to established eligibility and need.

To check eligibility, please click on the link provided below.

To be eligible you must provide documentation of income (pay stub) or proof of receiving government aid.

***** ATTENTION *****

Bus Pass Distribution Notice

  • Students who are listed on the approved “Riders List” but have not yet received a bus pass will not be denied transportation at the start of the school year.
  • Bus pass applications are currently being processed. Once approved, passes will be printed and provided to the respective drivers for distribution to students. We appreciate your patience during this time and are committed to ensuring that all eligible students receive their bus passes as promptly as possible.
  • Please note that students are required to carry their bus pass daily. Passes must be scanned upon both boarding and exiting the bus. This procedure is essential for maintaining accurate records of bus ridership and enables us to respond efficiently in the event of an emergency.

      Thank you for your cooperation.
